Born in London in 1961, Lynne was raised in an artistic and creative environment. Having no television and little means of distraction, crafts and manual tasks were not unusual in her family, with artistic talents ranging from floral art, to painting, music, needlework, photography and nail art. By the age of 9 Lynne was well on her way to becoming interested in cooking and was developing her skills in her mother's kitchen. By 13 years of age Lynne's Home Economics teacher was complaining "she's trying to teach me things", by this time Lynne was already making cakes in her spare time and selling them and had long since learned how to make jell-o! |

Round Because of its popularity, this shape is considered the king of all cakes. While some may consider basic round tiers to be boring, the simplicity and elegance make a round cake the perfect backdrop for interesting textures and colours | Square A square cake, with its sharp lines and angles, always makes a modern statement. Soften the hard edges with elegant touches like flowers, pastel colours and paper thin embellishments. | Petal Sometimes referred to as scalloped, this shape has a flower like, sculpted appearance. Maintain softness with decorations that have a light touch. | Table Cakes Interesting idea, each table has its own cake adorned with a sugar bouquet which one of the lucky guests gets to take home after the cake is eaten. | Hexagonal A six-sided cake is the creative answer to a classic square cake. With such a striking appearance, you will want to keep the decorations fairly structured. | Basket Weave A piping technique that features interwoven lines to resemble a whicker basket. | Butter Cream A smooth, flavourful icing that stays soft so it is easy to cut. It can be coloured and flavoured to almost any shade or flavour you can imagine. It can also be used to create flowers, borders, swags, lettering and other detail. Butter cream is also used as a filling. | Rolled Butter Cream A smooth, shiny draping for covering cakes. Smoother than the butter cream above it has the look of fondant icing (see below) but remains softer to cut and a fuller flavour. | Cornelli Lace An elaborate piping technique that makes a lace-like pattern, commonly used for wedding cakes. Can be tone on tone or used to accent colour. Gives your cake a softer more delicate finish. | Dotted Swiss Another piping technique that is made up of tiny random dots that resemble a fine dot Swiss fabric. Similar to polka dot. |
